Hey there!
I know this is the part where a querying author spills the tea about their book in hopes you’ll be intrigued and want to read more. But this is my story and who can explain this book better than me, Billie Bleak? It’s a YA paranormal tale called Never Summon Billie Bleak from the Grave. It’s 105,000 words and perfect for young adult readers who are obsessed with ghosts like me.
I prefer Bleak because my surname Blake doesn’t invoke the same terror in teens at slumber parties. Let me catch you up. During my junior year I fell off the bleachers and died on the last day of school. And don’t ask me how, the details are a little fuzzy. This story begins my senior year when I arrived as a ghost to scare my classmates by smacking lockers closed and pulling the fire alarms to get a glimpse of our town's sexy firefighters. Everything was going according to plan until the new girl Tayce McCoy showed up.
Unlike most people who see ghosts, Tayce wasn’t afraid of me. The weirdo even started following me around. Aren’t ghosts supposed to do the haunting? Long story short we became friends and struck a deal; she would help me recall my final moments in exchange for me helping her get a boyfriend. The bargain seemed simple enough until I was summoned by devil-worshiping cheerleaders, tasked with retrieving an amulet from a cursed mansion, forced to battle an evil warlock, and worst of all, faced down a bunch of jealous mean girls.
You can compare my witty spirit to Lou from Serpent and Dove and the plot is a modern teenage spin on the 90’s cult classic Ghost. I have a feeling you’re not afraid of a ghost like me, which is good. But don’t become attached. Remember, I’m dead.
Morbid best wishes,
Billie Bleak
Meet Billie Bleak, a 17 year old ghost. Yes, she died on the last day of her junior year. Due to her father's love of classic rock, Billie is a huge fan of AC/DC, Nirvana, Led Zepplin, and Black Sabbath to name a few. Love playing air guitar? So does Billie. But Billie is no poser. This girl actually slays her Fender Telecaster.
She's also a huge prankster. Being a ghost has it's perks when no one can see you. Well, almost no one. She adores scaring her ex-boyfriend by his slamming locker without warning and tripping a frenemy a time or two as they walk to class.
Let's not forget her love for all things scary. Which makes Billie being a ghost beautifully ironic. She never misses an opportunity to play with Ouija Boards when she crashes a slumber party. However, she doesn't like psychics. They are a bunch of phonies, so don't invite one over if you want Billie to stop by.
Billie is also a proud bisexual. She has always been authentically herself and wants all the people in her life to do the same. Being true to who you are is a mantra she lives by, even in death.
